Why choose organic over non-organic?

Vegan

A vegan is a person who doesn't eat any dairy or animal products, so that means no farmed or wild meat, eggs, fish and no dairy products like milk, cheese, cream, whipping cream, ice cream, cottage cheese, butter, sour cream, and yogurt.

Vegans choose this diet for many reasons. It may be for their love of animals or because they believe that meat has too many hormones, antibiotics and are fed genetically modified soy and corn meal. It may be because they are lactose intolerant or because the thought of eating animals grosses them out because of animal cruelty. Either way they are all great reasons to become a vegan.

Vegans have to find protein and their B vitamins from other sources such as veggies, grains and supplements. B12, or Cobalamin, is the one vitamin that some vegans don't get enough of. Even some meat eaters are deficiant in B12. A B12 supplement can be taken daily, eat foods with B12 in it twice a day, like sprinkling nutritional yeast on your salads, dinners and lunches, or a B12 patch can be worn twice a week to revieve perfect B12 levels.

Nutritional Yeast: (do not buy fortified nutritional yeast)

Nutritional yeast is a deactivated yeast which is sold commercially as a food product. It’s sold in the form of flakes or as a yellow powder similar in texture to cornmeal, and can be found in the bulk aisle of most natural food stores. It is popular with vegans and vegetarians and may be used as an ingredient in recipes or as a condiment.' - WikipediaIt’s amazing stuff really! It has loads of vitamins, protein and minerals.Per tablespoon; B1, B2, B3, B6, Folic Acid, B12, Selenium, Zinc and 8 grams of Protein.Add it to popcorn with a bit of extra virgin olive oil and sea salt. We put it on all of our dinners along with sea salt and Chia seeds, it’s great in soups, in pasta sauces, on rice, salads, sandwiches, you name it! Braggs is an awesome brand.

Vegans get their protein from natural sources such as:

  • Spirulina - 2 tbsp has enough protein to substitute for a meal. Spirulina is superior to all other animal or plant based proteins

  • Veggies - one cup of veggies has 7 grams of protein

  • Avocado - one has 10 grams of protein

  • Non-dairy milk - one cup of almond milk has 7-9 grams of protein

  • Quinoa - one cup has 9 grams of protein

  • Lentils - add to your veggie burgers, rice dishes or casseroles - one cup has 18 grams of protein

  • Beans - one cup has 13-15 grams of protein

  • Hemp seeds - one ounce has 6 grams of protein

  • Chia Seeds - one ounce has 4 grams of protein

  • Almonds - one cup has 20 grams of protein

  • Almond butter - 2 tbsp has 8 grams of protein

  • Nuts and seeds - Cashews - one ounce has 4 grams of protein

Sesame seeds - one ounce has 6.5 grams of protein

Walnuts - 1/4 cup has 5 grams of protein

Pistachios - one ounce has 6 grams of protein

  • Oatmeal (gluten-free) - one cup has 6 grams of protein

Staying away from meats and dairy products will most definitely prolong life. Being a vegan is a great diet choice to help build immunity. Unorganic meat and dairy is so harmful to the human body. Cow's milk is designed to be given to calves only, and now that humans drink it it creates toxic built up in our bodies. When cow's milk is consumed as an infant it creates allergies and is the start to sickness, such as colds, sinus problems and surprisingly enough osteoporosis.

While being Vegan you can get enough protein, vitamins, iron and energy to run marathons. There are many great vegan athletes who have written books about their journeys, such as Scott Jurek, Rich Roll, and Brendan Brazier, the creator of Vega.

Even though people like to debate how humans are meat eaters, with their canine teeth and how old animal protein is complete protein... but the fact is that NOW..in 2013...meat is not safe to eat. Yes as humans we need the vitamins, iron and protein that is found in meat, but we can find it from other healthier sources. Wild fish from the sea eat plastic and toxins, farmed animals such as cows, pigs and chickens are fed with poisonous foods - genetically modified soy and corn, they are pumped full of drugs (antibiotics) that make animals gain weight faster so they will have more meat to sell, which equals more $$$$ in the farmers pocket. Antibiotics can be transferred to humans through animal consumption, making us fat/larger and creates toxins which lead to disease. Do farmers care about our health? NO! They care about money though. It is important to buy organic at all times.

Plant proteins are not complete proteins. As humans it is better for our bodies to get our protein from many sources rather then just one. Why? Our bodies need a slower intake of all 20 amino acids to make protein for building cells and repairing old ones. In the China study it states that a:

diet with 20% animal protein + a diet full of carcinogens , such as refined sugar, = cancer.

Twenty percent of animal protein is not very much. In the American diet people get 60% animal protein and sugar is consumed in every meal. The book also states that if you decrease your animal protein intake that cancer cells and tumors shrink and leave the body. No wonder so many people are getting sick....and the medical system is just growing stronger. Cha-ching.

Top 10 Carcinogenic Foods - causing cancer

1. Any charred food - from burnt popcorn - to burnt toast, is highly carcinogenic.

2. Meat in general (in terms of the fats associated) is carcinogenic, especially overcooked meat.

3. Refined sugar is carcinogenic - whether white or brown. Instead of sugar, substitute with unpasteurized local honey

4. Stomach cancer is associated with high table salt intake, not sea salt

5. Sodas are carcinogenic for a variety of reasons beyond their high sugar content and harmful additives. Sodas have also been proved to leach the minerals - principally calcium - that are temporarily gained through other healthier foods

6. Trans fats found in fries and snack chips are carcinogenic

7. Artificial sweeteners, particularly aspartame, are carcinogenic

8. Excessive alcohol intake is toxic - carcinogenic

9. Foods cooked at high temperatures usually contain acrylamide. According to the FDA:Acrylamide is produced industrially for use in products such as plastics, grouts, water treatment products, and cosmetics. Acrylamide is also found in cigarette smoke. Acrylamide caused cancer in animals in studies where animals were exposed to acrylamide at very high doses. Acrylamide causes nerve damage in people exposed to very high levels at work.

10. Farm-raised fish and fish products contain high amounts of PCB's.

Humans are omnivorous. Yes we are able to eat meat off the bone but does it mean we have to? No. Our diets should primarily be nuts and seeds, vegetables and fruit. In todays society it is backwards. Meat is in every meal, like the Paleo Diet. Bacon and saussage for breakfast, deli meats in sandwhiches for lunch and steaks and chicken for dinner. All of this meat will take a heavy toll on our bodies. It will back up digestion and create an toxic overload on the small intestine, which will be the start to disease. This will result in sickness and an early death. It will be the end to our thirsty race. Maybe the vegans will be the only ones left!

A note based on my life* I understand that being vegan isn't for everyone. I was vegan for a year and realized I wasn't getting enough iron and B12. So I started eating grass fed bison once a month, fresh caught salmon once a month and I take a Tbsp. of cod liver oil daily. I also enjoy organic unsalted butter on my popcorn as a snack. I do not eat unorganic meat because of all the toxins and carcinogens the meat contains. I do not eat farmed fish. I do not eat regular butter or mayo. I do not consume any unfermented soy products either.
